I’m not sure about you, but I get spammed by robot spammers all the time. It’s not bad, but it does become annoying after awhile. I get at least 10 or more spam messages a day.
I use the Akismet spam plugin that came with WordPress and it does the job. This new WP-SpamFree plugin is a great supplement to Akismet. It’s transparent to users. There is no CAPTCHA code to enter or math degree required to make a post.
It’s been a week since I installed it and I’m spam free (knock on wood).
Key Features
1. Virtually eliminates automated comment spam from bots. It works like a firewall to ensure that your commenters are in fact, human.
2. A counter on your dashboard to keep track of all the spam it’s blocking. The numbers will show how effective this plugin is.
3. No CAPTCHA’s, challenge questions or other inconvenience to site visitors - it works silently in the background.
4. Includes drop-in spam-free contact form. Easy to use - no configuration necessary.
5. No false positives, which leads to fewer frustrated readers, and less work for you.
6. You won’t have to waste valuable time sifting through a spam queue anymore, because there won’t be much there, if anything.
7. Powerful trackback and pingback spam protection.
8. Easy to install - truly plug and play. Just upload and activate. (Installation Status on the plugin admin page to let you know if plugin is installed correctly.)
9. The beauty of this plugin is the methods of blocking spam. It takes a different approach than most and stops spam at the door.
10. The code is has an extremely low bandwidth overhead and won’t slow down your blog (very light database access), unlike some other anti-spam plugins.
11. Completely compatible with all cache plugins, including WP Cache and WP Super Cache. Not all anti-spam plugins can say that.
12. Display your blocked spam stats on your blog.
You can read more about it here.

Thanks for pointing this one out. I’ll have to give it a try. I like Akismet, but if I had less spam in the queue, that would be a good thing. Plus, if it doesn’t annoy my readers, that is excellent. I have avoided any of the CAPTCHA’s for that reason.
i hate spam as much…its so annoying sometimes!
I get 50-630 spam comments a day. I dont even check them anymore. I hit DELETE ALL at the end of the night and thats that!
Happy to hear your spam protection is working so well.
xxoo
ps….
LOVE THE WAY YOUR SITE LOOKS
Some day’s i get over 100 spam comments..it really becomes annoying..because I end up deleting good comments from readers when I go through them. Thanks for the heads up Rolando…and I hope all is well with you!

Hey Dan, I’ve been on vacation for 2 weeks and this new spam plugin caught everything it needed to. I didn’t have to go to my Akismet queue to delete any other spam posts. Hope it worked for you too.
Hi Waliz, spam is totally annoying that’s why I like this plugin. I know you use blogspot and hopefully there is a good or better solution for you.
Hey Meleah, holy smokes 630 spam comments. Dang, that’s a lot. I think you NEED this plugin. Hope you’ve tried it out since this posting.
Thanks for the comment on the site. You know me, always changing themes, lol.
Hi Morgan, I used to get a good handful and they were indeed spam comments. I just deleted them without looking sometimes because it was just too much and a waste of time. All is well, just trying to keep my head above water, lol.
