For the last two weeks I have been watching the Democrat and Republican conventions. I’m not hear to bash any of them, but just here to post my observations.
As far as my background, I was never much into politics. I never understood it and was never really interested in it except in the last 4 years.
I don’t know to tell you how the last 4 years have been as far as our economy and foreign policies has turn out under our current administration. Now that I have a family, a job, a home, etc. more of what happens in the government impacts me.
Since this year’s elections started I have paid more attention to each side’s plans and policies. I could care less about their family life or character. I want to know what they are going to do for us, for America.
So I listened to each candidate’s convention. I see how the candidates speak and sway its supporters. I look at the supporters unscripted reactions. I have to think and wonder where these people come from. Looking at both sides, it looks like we have two different Americas.
It’s kinda scary because it’s almost like a cult. One side chants as if they are the only ones in America, no one else matters, and their “stuff” doesn’t stink.
Republicans think Obama has empty promises and has no experience. Democrats do not want more of the same with McCain siding with Bush 90% of the time. There are more issues of course, but these are the one that stick out in my mind the most.
Now that I’m paying more attention to the election I am beginning to reflect on my own beliefs and discover which candidate most aligns with my beliefs. Although I may not agree with any of them 100% of the time, it’s like picking the less of two evils.
I really hope that we can come together no matter who wins the election.

I wasn’t particularly excited about this election until after the conventions. I knew who I was voting for, but it was more of a vote against the other guy than a vote for that guy. Now, however, I know there is someone I can vote for, so that’s a positive.

I know what you mean. If anything, the conventions just reinforced my vote for the lesser of the two evils, lol.

It’s so refreshing to read a post like yours Rolando. You’re not trying to sway readers to your way of thinking, you’re just saying what so many of use feel. I especially like the part about each side chanting their montra like a cult - you are so correct. I don’t know if the die hards on either side really know what they’re saying anymore - they just repeat, repeat, repeat the talking points from their own side. I wish more people would not be going into this with blinders on, faithful to their “party,” and instead make a sound decision based on the facts. Then we would have a true election. Great post Rolando! Have a great weekend

Hi Chris,
I’d tried to stay as neutral as possible. I’ve already read too many blogs and forums where people go on the attack and bash anyone against their candidate or party. I see a lot of assumptions being made on both sides. As far as I can both sides are about equal since their conventions.
We’ll see what happens, but I’ll keep watching and looking for the facts.
Take care and have a great weekend too!

As Michael Moore once said, if not the lesser of 2 evils then the evil of the 2 lessers.

Hey ZZ, yes just two months to go to really make up our minds, if it’s not already made up. Not sure which one will follow through with their promises. Lord knows we need a deliverer.
It’s good to be back. Just can’t escape the outdoors this Summer. We are enjoying the fruits of our labor that’s for sure (knock on wood).
Hope you’re doing well and enjoying what’s left of Summer.
